She is found in the garden That overlooks the sea. Serene in passing, she is finally free. Below the ground, her roots are deep. Underneath willows, she’ll forever sleep. Between flowers, And by peonies white. She lays still, and outside of sight. Hence time moves on, As well as seasons change. Her forms indifferent, she has stayed the same.
She may be gone, but as far as I know she’ll never truly fade. Since she’ll always be in peace, lying in the garden's shade. Now near autumn, As days become shorter. Her petals crumble, and above willows cry. After fall, the world will soon move on and nature will resupply. Except now she’s forever still, where she was left to die.

The Salem witch trials, Unfair as you may know No one defended Those witches that were accused, Accused for one reason or another Suspicion, avarice, or disdain for those who would be accused
Odd, weird behavior, or a general distaste Lots of reasons given for a trial A trial with no real case Even still, truth was hard to reach As all the puritans of the village, Were quite insistent on this waste Most would often preach, “A witch is around!” The sheer level of gullible, Might even be able to astound
Many possible reasons, For this mass hysteria Maybe something in the area, Something growing, At just the right time, A time for avarice, A time for new malice
Or Maybe because others would listen- Listen to those who had no voice- Had no voice because their voice was taken- Taken by those who gave them their new voice- A new voice that now yells… “She is a witch!”

you can feel it on the way home. the potholes don’t shake you. she hits the curb, you don’t flinch.
the rosary on the rearview mirror falls to the dash. you think of that abandoned barn off of route 30. it’d be a good place to paint them. someone cuts her off. she slams on the brakes.
they cut their hair recently. it suits them. she asks you a question that you don’t hear. they tell you that you’re their favorite person. you wish you were more. she turns up the ac. it’s 97 degrees outside.
they played with your hand during breakfast. you tried so hard to be normal about it. they always look for you first.
she turns onto your street. you wonder if it’d be too much to make them a playlist. their name matches yours. would it be too much to point that out? that we’re two halves of a whole? they felt the same way that you do at some point. you wonder if they still do.
you get out of her car and stumble to the door. punch in the code, let the dog out, and fall apart in the black hole of your bedroom floor. you think about them.

But in this state of loss and losing sight, Where darkness seems to have no start or end, Then Future lacks a place to grant its light And naught but darkness stays a stalwart friend. If nothing else, Mirkin found the peaceful solitude of these woods something to be treasured. Just at the edges of the Great Forest, the only creatures who crossed the elf’s path were animals or animal folk, all other noise stemming from the gentle rustle of the wind through the trees. The mighty oaks and bending willows stood fast and tall as the deep brown pillars and columns of the natural palace of his people. A tapestry of rich green leaves protected much of the wood from a harsh summer sun, their flapping in the breeze creating
the gentle rattle of life along with the birdsong and insect buzz...

there’s a certain kind of sadness that creeps into my bedroom-- when leo is high in the sky and your touch feels like nothing but sin.
you’ve been married to the church since you were conceived. when i was born, the doctors had my tail removed and replaced my hooves with my dead twin’s feet, but they forgot to give me a new left hand, the church wouldn’t let me in even if i wanted it. and oh, how i wanted.
in first grade, we sent letters to pennsylvania. i thought that that was were vampires were from, so i left my letter in a box of garlic for a week before sending it, just in case they sent their vampirism back. my brother was diagnosed with porphyria a year later. i guess the garlic thing is a myth, then.
in sixth grade, i looked you in the eye for the first time, it terrified me so much that i still can’t look at you, you wear contacts and i’m worried that they work like 3-d movie glasses. if you look at me, will all my skin and blood melt away until it’s just my soul, laid barren for you to laugh at?
in eighth grade, i fell apart in my childhood bedroom. i fell to my knees and prayed to a god that i wished i could revere. i prayed for him to un-curse me, rid me of the vampiric blood that ran through my veins. i begged him to drive a stake through my heart and crucify me like a true monster; anything that would make your blood a little less sweet to me. he never answered, the coward.
